"The trench of Italian pharmacies" is how Federfarma's president, Marco Cossolo, defines the daily battle of pharmacists against infections while doing their job.

Host of Coffe Break on La7, Cossolo thanked all his colleagues “who are doing an exceptional job that citizens and institutions recognize us. We faced two problems: the first was the scarcity of disinfectant gels which we were able to overcome by setting up, in collaboration with SIFAP, the preparation directly in the pharmacy, avoiding a surge in prices. Then, the lack of masks that we tried to get around by setting up plexiglass screens on the counters ”.

But beyond the technical aspects, Cossolo highlighted the great work of community pharmacists in providing information and reassuring patients in these days. "The number of people who have not arrived in the emergency room because they are were filtered by pharmacists is countless."

Then he spoke about the medicines that are currently distributed by hospitals only and stressed that at least in this period they should be “distributed by community pharmacies which will deliver them to the patients. This would help to help people not to move from home. However - concluded Cossolo – the regionalization of the healthcare system prevents the adoption of this emergency measure”.
