European community pharmacists elect Mikołaj Konstanty as PGEU President and Ly Rootslane as PGEU Vice-President for 2026
Press ReleasesToday, at PGEU General Assembly, PGEU members elected Mikołaj Konstanty from the Polish Pharmaceutical Chamber as PGEU President for 2026 and Ly Rootslane from the Estonian Pharmacies Association as PGEU Vice-President. They will start their mandate from 1st January 2026.
The newly elected President Mikołaj Konstanty advanced: ”I would like to thank all PGEU members for their trust. The upcoming year 2026 is going to be crucial for pharmacy – the ongoing revision of the EU General Pharmaceutical Legislation, the Critical Medicines Act, and the persistent problem of medicine and workforce shortages – will be our main priorities and we will continue working on together to find effective solutions. I am very much looking forward to continuing working with all PGEU members and transforming into reality our Vision for the future of Pharmacy. We have to ensure that the pharmacy workforce continues to be a vibrant, sustainable and solution-oriented profession, responding to the ever-growing challenges of today and tomorrow”.
Dr. Mikołaj Konstanty is a passionate and dedicated pharmacist with over two decades of experience in the profession. He has successfully managed both individual and corporate pharmacies. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Silesian Medical University where he also worked as a tutor, nurturing the next generation of pharmacists. He runs his own community pharmacy with his wife, where they place a strong emphasis on patient-centered pharmaceutical care. In 2019, he was elected President of the Silesian District Pharmaceutical Chamber, and in January 2024 he was elected Vice-President of the Polish Pharmaceutical Chamber. He currently serves as the coordinator of the Polish Pharmaceutical Chamber’s commission on pharmaceutical care, foreign affairs, and economic activity.
Ly Rootslane stressed: “I am humbled and honored to be elected as Vice-President of PGEU for the upcoming 2026 mandate. I am very motivated to continue working with PGEU members, the Executive and the PGEU Secretariat, making sure that policymakers, lawmakers and the public in general recognize the added value that pharmacists bring to society, in the areas of pharmacy services, access to care, and public health protection. We have a challenging year ahead of us, but I am sure that by working together and in a network, we will be able to accomplish our goals successfully”.
Ly Rootslane is a qualified pharmacist with over 30 years of professional involvement in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. She has extended experience in public service, private sector and professional organisations. Her interests focus on pharmacy services and education, public and private sector co-operation and regulatory affairs, as well as building and maintaining quality systems in the sector. Since 2020 she is the Head of Estonian Pharmacies Association, uniting over 300 pharmacies (2/3 of Estonian pharmacies) and 1000+ pharmacists in Estonia. She is also responsible for strategic planning, operational management, professional training programs, government relations and legal matters. Previously, Ly worked in the Estonian State Agency of Medicines, specializing in marketing authorization, having served as Head of Bureau of Medicines Statistics, and Development Advisor to the Head of the Agency.
