Across Europe, persistent medicine shortages continue to challenge patients, healthcare professionals and health systems. Community pharmacists are on the frontline of this reality, working daily to secure continuity of treatment, identify safe therapeutic alternatives and ensure that no patient is left without essential medicines. Their unique position within the medicines supply chain makes them a key pillar in strengthening Europe’s preparedness and resilience.
In this context, PGEU is pleased to invite you to the event “Keeping Medicines Available – Pharmacists and the resilience of Europe’s supply chain”, taking place on 3 March 2026 from 17:00 to 19:00 at the European Parliament, Room 2Q2 – József Antall (JAN) Building (2nd Floor), Brussels, followed by a cocktail reception.
The event is kindly hosted by MEP Nicolás González Casares (S&D) and MEP Tomislav Sokol (EPP).
Two panel discussions will explore both the operational and policy dimensions of medicine shortages.
Panel I – Addressing persistent medicines shortages: the role of pharmacists on the front line will feature representatives from the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the Spanish Medicines Agency (AEMPS) and the Association of Pharmacists Belgium (APB), followed by an exchange of views with the audience.
Panel II – Strengthening the resilience of Europe’s medicines supply chain will bring together speakers from the European Court of Auditors (ECA), the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), the European Commission (DG SANTE) and Medicines for Europe, also followed by discussion with participants.
Closing remarks will be delivered by Mikołaj Konstanty, President of PGEU.
This discussion, hosted at the heart of European policymaking, will gather policymakers, regulators, patient representatives and community pharmacists to identify practical solutions and forward-looking policies to secure the continuous availability of medicines across Europe.
We would be delighted to count on your presence and to continue the exchange during the cocktail reception from 19:00.
