Vision and Mission

Community pharmacists are recognised and supported within national health systems as key health professionals making a dynamic, sustainable, and evolving contribution to the health of individuals and communities they serve whilst strengthening European health systems.

Our mission is:

  • To advocate and advance the sustainable contribution community pharmacists, make to individual health, public health and to health systems through the promotion of the responsible use of medicines and the provision of professional and clinical services;

  • To promote and develop cooperation in Community Pharmacy among the European countries;

  • To ensure our vision of Community Pharmacy is reflected in EU policy and legislative developments.


What is the PGEU?


The Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU) is the voice of Community Pharmacy in Brussels. The PGEU's main objective is to advance the contribution of Community Pharmacists to European health systems, society and individual patients.


What does the PGEU do?


PGEU represents the community pharmacy perspective in relation to legislative and policy initiatives at EU level which affect our profession and/or public health.  The organisation maintains regular contacts with the European Commission (including DG SANTE, DG GROW and DG CONNECT), the European Parliament, the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) and the Economic and Social Committee. PGEU is part of a network of European healthcare professionals’ organisations via which the European Medicine Agency engages with the healthcare sector.  PGEU is a member of: EFPC, FIP and EMVO.

PGEU is an international non-profit association (A.I.S.B.L - Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif, BE 0468 971 838) under Belgian law.
The Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU) is the association representing Europe’s community pharmacists. PGEU members are the national associations and professional bodies of community pharmacists in 33 European countries including EU Member States, EU candidate countries and EEA/EFTA countries. PGEU's Ordinary Members are associations from EU Member States, while PGEU's Observer Members are organisations from non-EU European countries.
